The Baroque Era.

 The Baroque Era

The term Baroque art is a term used to reference a unique art movement that prevailed from the 1600’s through roughly around the 1750’s. During this time period people were beginning to view the world differently; Practicing new religions, making new scientific discoveries, etc. The Baroque era began in Rome, Italy around the 1600’s but eventually spread entirely throughout Europe. It’s ironic that this movement wasn't a movement that was very popular during it’s own time period. Many people disliked the new type of art that was being released because it was different than they were used to, the viewed it as bizarre and simply a bad taste in art, however it eventually became very appreciated further down history. Although paintings were the most famous, Music, Architecture, Literature, and Sculptures were also a part of the baroque period.

One of the most famous artists that existed throughout this art movement included Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. Rembrandt was born in the Netherlands and is was considered one of the most greatest print makers and painters of his time. He gave many contributions to art in what the Dutch called the Golden Dutch Age. This Dutch Golden Age was a time when the Netherlands was going through a period of great wealth and cultural achievement and this helped Rembrandt in a way. His paintings were mostly about normal people, and their old-fashioned culture. His paintings also depicted nudity but not to Michelangelo’s extent, some of them even pictured the study of anatomy.

Some Famous artist in the Baroque period of art include Caravaggio. One very famous names that most people, everyday know who his is  and has some of their favorite works. Caravaggio lived from 1571-1610 and lived in a few different places in the world, but was considered an Italian artist. One of his most famous works is The Taking of Christ. This piece depicts Christ getting taken by roman soldiers, then a disciple kissing his cheek. This one is so popular because of its religious factor, and the  deep emotion that you get when you look at it. In general baroque paintings were religious, scientifically based; this is because the Baroque era had marked the ending of a renaissance in Europe.
